I just placed an order at my local bike shop for a Specialized Allez E5 Smartweld frameset! Unfortunately it's on backorder and won't be here until early April. But hey I'm excited and I'm going to be ordering the rest of the components tonight!

Why does no one love mountain bikes here!?

That looks like the Lambo of bike frames.

Really? What do you have?

I've got one. It's what I commute on 70% of the time.

Don't leave us hanging. Shimano, Campy, or SRAM?

I'm going with a Campy Veloce groupset with a Centaur crank!

Specialized hardrock 29er disc with sram x3. Not the fastest bike in the world but it gets the job done.

And here I was, thinking I was the only one!

Well, actually...

Smartweld? Really Specialized??? It's just TIG welded tubes that are internally flanged on each end, it's different from other people but it's still just TIG welded.

I don't really care if they called it "super duper suck my dick trek weld" I just know that I like the way that it rides.

If it rides well then get it, the ride is the #1 important part of a bicycle.
Let me explain my comment a little more. My brother and I are huge bike people, and he's worked at bike shops for 11 years now. The shop he used to be at is the #2 Specialized dealer in Illinois, so he knew everything about their bikes. A few years ago he moved to a different town and a different shop that deals with more specialty bikes (Salsa, Surly, Jones, Gunnar, etc...), and ever since then we've looked back at Specialized with a feeling of over-engineering and buzzwords galore. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved my old Specialized Enduro, it's just the buzzwords and "innovations" that make me laugh.

I've got a mountain bike and a road bike.
GT Karakoram 2.0 29er...nice beefy frame now in need of better components.
Ridley Icarus SLS Apex.

Oh yeah, I agree with you that it's not really innovative and a lot of specialized's marketing is aimed towards people that don't know too much about bikes. (However that could explain why they're so successful) However all the marketing BS aside, the smartweld does ride better than the normal Allez in my opinion, and rides like a slightly rougher and more communicative Tarmac.

Everyone here has a bike from a brand I have never heard of, or they built it themselves. I just bought a Trek 3500... I feel Laaaame

Well I think most people on here have either Felt, Trek, but a lot of people have Specialized bikes.

Also building a bike yourself doesn't really make too much sense financially so I don't blame you. However I wanted a campagnolo groupset which you can't get on a stock bike.

I can't say I've ridden one of their Aluminum road bikes, that I can remember anyways. The only road bike of theirs I remember riding was a Carbon Tri bike that weighed like 16 pounds, that thing was insane! It seriously accelerated even before hammering on the pedals, the $5k price tag was a little much for me to want one of my own but the ride was awesome.
